Land & place

 In these paintings, I explore places through broad shapes, textured paint and blocks of colour. Canadian mountains, water and Arabic architecture become compositions that sit between recognisable scenes and abstraction.

 This portrait explore the different layers we hold within ourselves. A divided face and contrasting colours reflect the parts of us that coexist, while subtle African patterns bring my heritage into the work.

 These faces bring together bold outlines, simple forms and intricate patterns. I explore how much character a face can hold through just a few lines, with areas of detail set against open space.

In this collection, I explore distress, healing and what survives hardship. Frayed fabric, stitching and layered surfaces speak to the ways history and culture endure, while still carrying the marks of what they have been through.

 These animal paintings are part of my early work. They reflect the enjoyment of looking closely at a subject and learning to capture its features and presence through paint.
